Local Businesses We Work With

We work with a number of local businesses but the ones that we work with the most are: Lakeview Veterinary Services, Gallagher Farms, Ionia Grain, and Jones Meat Market. Without these businesses it would be a lot harder for us to bring you the quality products you've come to expect from us.

Lakeview Veterinary Services has been our veterinarian of choice for the last 30 years. They are great at what they do, and we would be in trouble without a great team of large animal veterinarians to keep our livestock healthy. Just like people animals need to see the doctor every now and then, even if it's just to kick the tires.

Gallagher Farms and Ionia Grain are both local mills where we purchase some of the feed for our animals. Gallagher Farms is where we buy all of our hog feed for the sows and feeder hogs. We buy our piglet and calf creep feed from Ionia Grain along with the concentrate for the sheep grain. Both of these businesses are very important to our farm, and we couldn't have as diverse herd of livestock without them.

Last and certainly not least is Jones Farm Meat Market. They are our go to processor, and they do an amazing job. Due to the pandemic, we had to try a couple of other processors and there was no comparison. Jones beat them both hands down. If we don't have something you want in stock chances are good you can get it at their store.

Certifications

You might know about how teachers have to keep taking classes to keep up on the newest teaching methods and other things related to their field, but did you know that farmers and ranchers have something similar? Every three years we take an online class for both beef and pork. These classes are to make sure that we are keeping up on the current best practices for the care of our animals. The classes cover everything from proper record keeping to protecting our herds' health.

There is the BQA or Beef Quality Assurance, which covers the care and best practices for our cattle. And the PQA or Pork Quality Assurance, which covers the care and best practices for our hogs. We are not aware of a Lamb Quality Assurance program or a Poultry Quality Assurance program, but if we find one, we will take those courses as well.

Checkout the links for the PQA and the BQA below to learn more about those programs.
